The Impact of Interpersonal Empowerment on the Depression and Life Satisfaction of the Elderly

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to categorize interpersonal empowerment from subscale, to examine the impact of the different types of interpersonal empowerment on the depression and life satisfaction of elderly people. The subjects in this study were elderly residents in Busan who were selected by convenience sampling and participated in senior community programs and used senior centers. After a survey was conducted, the answer sheets from 345 respondents were analyzed. The findings of the study were as follows: First, the elderly person who were better educated, who earned a regular income and who found themselves to be healthier were better at interpersonal empowerment, suffered less depression and expressed more life satisfaction. Second, as a result of analyzing the influence of the subscales of interpersonal empowerment on depression and life satisfaction, those who lagged behind in terms of leadership competence experienced more expression and were less satisfied with their life. And those who attached more importance on participation in local community expressed more life satisfaction.
